Deputies: Property dispute triggered deadly Gordonsville shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. — Deputies are investigating a deadly shooting in Orange County Sunday afternoon allegedly sparked over a property dispute.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on Carter Winkey Road in Gordonsville around 3:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Clyde Johnson III in his vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies and EMS unsuccessfully tried to save Johnson, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said 63-year-old John Louis Johnson, of Carter Winkey Road, was immediately taken into custody.

Johnson was charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Johnson is being held in the Central Va. Regional Jail with no bond.
