EXCLUSIVE: Sister of mom charged in 2-year-old’s death speaks out

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – Natasha Inge says the death of her 2 year old niece Mikayla has taken a huge piece of her heart.

It’s a tragedy she says her family is struggling with. Police arrested Tabitha Inge, Natasha’s sister, and charged her with  felony child neglect after her two-year-old daughter died in a car window.

Natasha agreed to speak with CBS 6 News with hopes of sharing the story as she knows it about her sister Tabitha and what happened the night Mikayla died.

Chesterfield Police say that the 2-year-old girl’s head got trapped between a car window and the door frame when she was left unattended in her mom’s car.

Tabitha Inge is now charged with one count of felony child neglect.

Natasha says her sister did visit a friend at the Parkway Mobile Home park on Tuesday night.

Neighbors reported Inge stopped by to style someone’s hair, but loved ones dispute that.

“It is false. It makes her sound like a monster and she is not a monster. She loved them dearly. She is a wonderful loving mother,” Natasha said. “My niece’s father loved her more than anything. It’s a horrible tragedy and we are trying to be strong and we need people to know before you go judging people you don’t know the whole story.”

She says her family believes what happened to Mikayla was a terrible accident.

In court on Friday, Tabitha Inge asked the judge if she could be released to attend her daughter’s funeral.

The judge has not yet made a decision.

The 28-year-mom also told the judge she planned on hiring her own attorney.

Tabitha Inge is due back in court on July 7th at 2 p.m.

Tonya, I’m sorry after trying to read through your posts I cannot understand any of them. I’m not trying to judge grammar on an online post, because that is silly and I know I make my share of punctuation errors on here. But what you are writing isn’t even English. Is it some sort of Ebonics? Why don’t you get your daddy to post what you are trying to say? Those of us who graduated High school are having a hard time figuring it out. Thanks, hun!!!

      Athynz let’s get this clear…. ”

About damned time – by all means please FINALLY be clear on something.

“I’m gonna say whatever I wanna say.”

And yet you whine and cry when others have their say. But do please continue…”

“Yeah I’m telling your ignorant a** to shut up because you doing all this typing and not saying a word.”

There are plenty of words – it’s not my fault you cannot comprehend the English language when reading it. I suggest you go back to school.

      “You don’t make sense.”

      Reading comprehension is critical.

“I don’t care if your post is three paragraphs long you sound dumb as he**”

Try reading what I wrote you uneducated bimbo and go slowly so you don’t miss anything. I’ll wait.

“& once again…… IT’S NO EXCUSE & SHE NEED TO BE IN JAIL!!!!!”

Yes she does belong in jail – I never said she didn’t. Again, read what I wrote. Slowly. I’m saying she also deserves a bit of compassion – something you evidently are not capable of. She made a horrible mistake and it’s obvious she feels a loss that I hope no one – even you – will ever know. BTW the part of your post that I quote above – it’s supposed to read “… she NEEDS to be in jail”… you missed the “s” on the end of the word need. But yeah I’m the one that does not make sense…/ sarcasm

      “Dumb a**”

Why yes you are. Now take your own advice and shut up.

      • Troll

The “village idiot” comments again, and again, and again ………. and again. Athynz only comments in an effort to hear himself talk or try to make himself look good. Rollie pollie should be exercising instead of incessantly posting on the internet. He, at least, should educate himself a little instead of insult intelligent people. athynz should stop lying to people too.

      • athynz

Point by point boy – because I can:

        TROLL
The “village idiot” comments again, and again, and again ………. and again.”

Yes you do. It’s a bad habit on your part – it’s obivous you aren’t intelligent enough to comment on the topic at hand so in some sort of sad and pathetic bid to get attention and recognition you insult and stalk me. Sad thing is you do it on articles I haven’t even commented on bringing my name up like you know me or something. This isn’t healthy for you David. Seek some help – perhaps a support group or a psychiatrist.

“Athynz only comments in an effort to hear himself talk or try to make himself look good.”

I comment because I can and on topics I find of interest. If you don’t like it you can leave. It’s simple enough even you can understand it.

“Rollie pollie should be exercising instead of incessantly posting on the internet.”

Why not do both? And if you don’t like my rollie pollie why do you keep on ballgazing? Why do you beat your mother David?

“He, at least, should educate himself a little instead of insult intelligent people.”

I am quite a bit more educated than you want to give me credit for – and very likely far more educated than you. As for the insults – deal with it. I’m not going to hurl the first one but I will start up after being provoked – typical of you and the other libpros though starting the insults flying then whine about when someone insults you back.

“athynz should stop lying to people too.”

Interestingly enough you’ve made this accusation before and have yet to prove it. Why is that David? If I’m lying then you should be able to prove it – so do so. Have the stones to back up one of these accusations. Heck have the stones to actually comment on the article without an insult or trolling comment.

      • athynz

And yet David you cannot back up your claims. Why is that? Because you have nothing other than some pathetic need for attention. Come on David prove what you say.

You people amaze me. It was just a couple of years ago I think that a rich white person left their baby in their car downtown with it running and the baby was carjacked with the car. I really don’t think that person was ever charged with anything. The baby was found unharmed but the results could have been no different than in this case. Another case here in Chesterfield where a rich woman left her baby in a hot car because he was sleeping and someone saw the child and called 911. She was arrested ( she had 5 other children I believe) but things were reduced and away she went with no consequences. Why should someone poor get treated any different than someone with money. Because money talks and we all know it. I don’t condone what this mother did by any stretch of the imagination. There is never an excuse for leaving your baby in the car even if it is in your own driveway but people do it every day. People never think anything bad will happen to them (all teenagers think that). It’s the mentalitiy of today. She made a horrible mistake yes. She should be punished and I am sure she is already going through her own private punishment right now. Can anyone just imagine how hard it is if you love your child to know you are the reason they are dead. I can only imagine (I’m sure it is not even close) the hell it must be. As a mother of 5 and a grandparent of 4 I don’t know how I would cope. Humans make mistakes and unfortunately some of them have devastating results as in this case. She is human. She can’t go back and change it and now she has to live with the fact her baby girl is dead because of her mistake. I for one would never want to be in her shoes because no government could ever punish me as much as I would punish myself.

    • anonymous

i agree with SW . I know this family. They have hearts of gold. This is a terrible tragedy and none of us can begin to imagine what someone in this position is going through. The hateful comments are disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Decent people find no reason to judge when they don’t have all the facts.

  • Mo Fiscal Conservatism

Wow, I had to check back to see how many humans we have here. I can’t even comment. 90% of you are taking what Athenz and myself are saying out of context to support your own rant. Talk about drugs, prostitution and a crime she committed in the past which is completely irrelevant. Telling me I am supporting her mistake, but can’t prove it. I am supporting her and letting you kids know that you really shouldn’t crucify this poor girl with a news article that clearly states that they are waiting to get all of the facts. Judging from what I read here, I’m willing to bet that most of you live in the trailer park she was visiting. Or something close.

Tonya, I’m sorry after trying to read through your posts I cannot understand any of them. I’m not trying to judge grammar on an online post, because that is silly and I know I make my share of punctuation errors on here. But what you are writing isn’t even English. I’m off to watch a regatta. Hope you kids are never in a position of power, that’s all I can say.

  • Annonymous

You bleeding heart idiots amaze me! Everyone is putting themselves in Tabitha’s shoes an referring to this child as if she is a “thing.” No one has mentioned Mikayla! Sure you empathize with her loss as a parent but where is your outrage? Mikayla was a person. Completely helpless and dependent on her family. The one adult in her life that was supposed to protect her failed miserably. So yes, I’m sure this mother is sad and will have to live with it for the rest of her life but that I not enough. Mikayla didn’t survive. She was found hanging in the car window after suffering a horrible death. This cannot go unpunished.

    • sw

Wow you have to really be an idiot if you think this hasn’t already been a punishment on this mother. Accidents do happen because we are all human and we all make mistakes. Only by the grace of God most of our mistakes don’t end up costing us a loved one. People leave their kids in their car every day of every year. They leave them to run in to the gas station. They do it because they think nothing will happen to their child if they are asleep. All I have to say for you Annonymous (nice name by the way) is I feel sorry for you that you carry such hate for someone who you don’t even know. You don’t know what kind of mother this woman was so stop acting like she intentionally set out to kill her baby. No one on here can truly judge this mother if they don’t personally know her so please stop being judge, jury and executioner.

    • athynz

No one is suggesting she goes unpunished – but amuse me oh anonymous one and quote where I, Mo, or anyone else who is showing a shred of compassion for Tabitha Inge said anything like that. I’ll wait.

  • felecia

OK SO FOR ANYONE THAT IS ACTUALLY STANDING UP FOR THIS MOTHER……I HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU…….WHEN DID IT BECOME OK TO LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE CAR UNATTENDED? I MEAN THAT CHILD WAS 2 YEARS OLD AND HER MOTHER WASNT THERE TO HELP HER INSTEAD LEFT HER THERE TO DIE!!!!!! THIS IS NOT OK…..AND IF IT WAS A F**CKING DOG LEFT IN THE CAR EVERYONE WOULD WANT HER DEAD!!!!! NO THIS GIRL DESERVES TO ROT IN JAIL AND I HOPE CPS TAKES HER OTHER CHILD!!!!! AND ACCORDING TO THE STORIES THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE NEWS STATION THIS IS NOT THE ONLY TIME SHE HAS DONE THIS…..SO NO IT WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT SHE INTENDED TO LEAVE THAT POOR INNOCENT BABY IN THE CAR TO GO DO WHATEVER SHE WANTED TO DO!!!!! THIS IS 10000000000000000000% CHILD NEGLECT……IF SHE HAD NOT NEGLECTED THIS CHILD SHE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

    • sw

You have some real anger issues if you feel you must put your comments in all caps. Your all caps “hey look at me” post is just annoying.

    • athynz

      1) Ditch the all caps please there is no need to shout. 2) Since you asked:

      “FELECIA
OK SO FOR ANYONE THAT IS ACTUALLY STANDING UP FOR THIS MOTHER……I HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU…….WHEN DID IT BECOME OK TO LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE CAR UNATTENDED?”

Obviously it’s not and never had been. Look through any of my posts and see if you can find where I said that it was. Do the same for Mo’s posts and anyone else’s posts who show some form of compassion for this young mother. NO ONE is saying her actions were okay, right, or excusable in any way. It’s not right for a child and it’s not right for a dog. That is not the point. The point is this young mother’s actions resulted in the loss of her child, she is going to have to live with the fact that her actions resulted in her child’s death and that is a special kind of hell that I would wish on no one – and the people who post on here and make such sickening comments such as “sterilize her” or “she was there for a meth hit” disgust me.

To sum it up NO her actions were not okay, a baby is dead due to them, she deserves to be punished according to the law, but have some fu*king compassion here people! It’s not like she intended for the child to die, it’s not like she took a weapon and killed the child – if that was the case then I would have no compassion at all for her. This was a very sad and tragic accident and Ms Inge will have to live with the results for the rest of her life. Does that help to explain?

  • Annonymous

Hmm….and where are her other 2 children during this. My guess is they were probably in someone else’s custody already.

  • TooRotten

Who goes to cut hair, at a trailer park at 9:30 at night? Who leaves a baby in a running car, at night, in a trailer park? Who doesn’t use their window locks when they have kids and pets? The window locks are there for this purpose alone! And why wasn’t this baby in a car seat? Being in a car seat would have prevented this just as much as using that little LOCK button next to the window on the drivers side door!! So, besides the obvious “never leave your baby in a car”, she made several other BASIC mother fail mistakes, ANY and ALL left her with a dead baby… Neglect?? Oh yeah, THAT is NEGLECT!

  • Annonymous too

Well I know the facts mo and she will be going to prison for some time. Someone else probably will too. It unfortunately is “worst case scenario.”

    • Mo Fiscal Conservatism

Reading online news articles aren’t “the facts”. Let me guess, you “have a friend who blagh, blagh blagh”?? It’s funny, there are people on here commenting with old information that has been updated through news articles. This story seems to be the place for all local trailer park residents to pretend they’re “someone”. I’m not even mad, these comments are almost funny.

Well just checking in to see what the welfare recipients of the metro Richmond area are up to. Night kids!!

  • mary

I don’t care what she was smoking, sniffing, shooting. She had no business leaving that baby in the car. Shame on her. If she was in fact doing hair that is no excuse..

  • stephanie harrington

i know this person for real and i cant believe she would have ever left her baby in that car for no long period of time. tabby is a very good person who loves her children. this was a accident.

  • Glen Allen

Regardless of blame, this is a horrible incident, and my heart goes out to all of the family. Clearly this was not an intentional act, it will be up to the courts to decide the best action after a full investigation, and it will not matter if the family is rich or poor.

    • sw

@GLEN ALLEN I am right there with you except for the “it will not matter if the family is rich or poor”. Oh please! This could not be further from the truth. If you think you get just as good a defense with a court appointed attorney as you do a paid one you really don’t know the system very well. My father was friends with quite a few judges and lawyers in Chesterfield County and the paid ones make deals the others don’t bother with.

  • Laurie

All of my love and sympathy to the entire Inge family….I know what good people you are and I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers!! Love and Hugs!!!

I know everyone is pissed off and it is only natural. An innocent precious child has lost her life…due to what? Human error? I am so sick and tired of every summer people keep leaving their children unattended in a car and dying. We all know children are unpredictable that is why YOU DON’T EVER LEAVE A CHILD unattended, in a hot car to do whatever she felt was important that she needed to do. I don’t care as much about what the mother’s reasoning is for leaving her child in the car alone, as she could have just as easily brought her inside of the mobile home with her. That would have been the logical thing to do. No one , but her knows why she did this. And no one can excuse this HUMAN ERROR. It is more than an error it is being neglectful. I am sorry for the family that has to suffer through all of this. Really a life was taken and the courts needs to deal with this case and all cases accordingly. This carelessness needs to stop right now! I have since read other stories like this and it just makes me sick!
