HONG KONG – What do you do when you’re driving and your cell phone beeps with a text, tweet or Facebook update? Volkswagen recently released a powerful PSA in an effort to encourage you to wait to check your phone.

The car maker teamed up with a Hong Kong movie theater to show people what happens when you use your cell phone behind the wheel. The video begins with a first-person view of a car on the road.

While the audience is watching the screen, a person upstairs sends a text message to everyone in the theater at the same time.

When audience members glance down to check their phones, something tragic happens on the screen.
