HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A former Henrico teacher convicted of sexual battery against members of his own family will not go to prison, but will have to register as a sex offender.

Those are the terms of a plea agreement that Anthony Crowder entered into Wednesday.

The 40-year-old Godwin High School teacher was arrested last year, and charged with two counts of sexual battery charges that stemmed from the 1980s.

Prosecutors had said that he was a teenager when he inappropriately touched two underage relatives.

Crowder, who will also have to be evaluated by a psychologist, will be on probation for the next 20 years.

You don’t think that is a real crime? Having been molested by a teenaged relative when I was 7, I can tell you that it very much was a crime and was very damaging to me. I have battled depression ever since and he robbed me of my childhood because I was threatened into keeping quiet and had to keep that awful secret which filled me with so much shame. I’m sorry that you can’t understand what kind of trauma it causes kids to be victimized like this. Perhaps you lack empathy.

What happens when an adult is sentenced for a crime he or she committed as a juvenile?
When the juvenile court sentences an adult who has committed, before attaining the age of 18, an
offense which would be a crime if committed by an adult, the court may impose a penalty up to a
maximum of 12 months in jail and/or a fine up to $2,500. (§ 16.1-284 of the Code of Virginia)
He was 12-13 years old at the time that the crime supposedly took place according to the prosecutor
at the beggining of the trial. victim was 3-4 years of age .
This should have been tried in juvenile court not circuit court. he got 20 years suppended prison term and probation for 20 years.
His lawyer must have made a deal with the prosecutor to allow his civil rights to be violated like this.
Henrico county judicial system has opened them up for a large civil suit .
