RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A person was airlifted from the middle of the James River Wednesday morning in Richmond. CBS 6 photojournalist Chris Munnings captured the rescue on video from the Powhite Parkway.

The person who was rescued had jumped into the river off of the Powhite Parkway bridge, according to witnesses. After floating down the river 100 - 150 feet, the person ended up on a rock.

Richmond river rescue and two state police helicopters arrived helped in the rescue. Officials said the victim's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The right and right center lanes of Powhite Parkway/Route 76 east in Chesterfield were closed near the Richmond line as police responded to this incident.
