COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) — Police are searching for two robbers who targeted a 93-year-old woman and followed her home from the bank earlier this week.

“I didn’t even think about being robbed, but I was,” the victim told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil on Friday.

CBS 6 is not showing the victims face to protect her identity. She said she feels blessed she wasn’t hurt and described what happened just after noon on Thursday.

"I came from the bank, I had picked the money I needed for my monthly expenses, drove into the garage, got out of the car,” she said.

That’s when the woman came face to face with a man who she said "came running around the corner of the garage door and demanded my purse."

She said that in a flash, the man had grabbed the purse and took off running.

"There was a car waiting for him, he jumped in the automobile and they took off," she said.

The robbers made off with some cash, one credit card, her check book, keys and eyeglasses.

Police believe the woman was not a random victim and was targeted at the bank. Investigators released a surveillance photo of the car they believed is linked to the crime.

"I just don't understand why anybody would pick on an older person," said Willie Brockwell, who lives near the victim.

Those living in the Sherwood Hills subdivision are concerned about anyone being targeted, but especially a senior.

"I have a 92-year-old grandmother, and she lives in the city, and I can't imagine how I'd feel if it had been her,” said Buddy Hamm, who lives nearby.

As for the victim, she said she has had her locks changed and ordered new glasses, While the robbers may have stolen her purse, but their actions have not not dampened her exuberant spirit.

"I don't plan to let them change my life,” she said.
