Man shot dead on Richmond street, second man hurt

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - One person was killed and another injured in an early morning shooting in South Richmond.

Police were called to the shooting along the 2800 block of Montecrest Ave. about 1:19 a.m. The crime scene is near Terminal Ave. and Jeff Davis Highway.

"Officers were on scene within two minutes and found two adult males who had been shot," Richmond Police wrote in an email. "One victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second victim died at the scene."

Canine units were called to the crime scene to trace leads as forensics investigators collected evidence.

Police have not yet released information about the victims or the suspects. Police have not yet released the motive behind the shooting because the homicide investigation is in the early stages.
