FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -- One Virginia elementary school is experiencing such an uptick in enrollment that school leaders are proposing a high-rise expansion to solve their problem.

Bailey's Elementary for the Arts and Sciences has more than 1300 students enrolled, which puts the building at 130-percent capacity.

Nineteen trailers currently serve as classrooms in the Fairfax County school's backyard.

The plan is for Bailey's third, fourth, and fifth graders to move into a five-story office building in the county.

Parents said they think the plan is a unique idea for building a school inside the Beltway.

Additionally, the school is using the move as a teaching tool by allowing the kids to spend time with the architects and making layouts of what they would like included in the addition.
