RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Some area children took part in the "Lights Up!" event at Richmond CenterStage Saturday.

The organization hosted a youth open house of free workshops including dance, music, theater and art activities.

Janet Stark, CenterStage's Director of Education, described how this type of event can spark lifetime passions.

“The idea is… A lot of these children are taking art classes for the first time ever," Stark said. "[It’s] about really exposing children to the arts and finding new passions they didn’t even know they had.”

The event took place at the Genworth BrightLights Education Center on Grace Street.
