RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- The Richmond Fire Department is investigating what sparked a house fire in Church Hill just a few blocks south of Oakwood Cemetery.
Fire crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of 33rd Street just after 8 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived, the home's front porch and second story were engulfed in flames.
Firefighters got the blaze under control by 9 p.m., but the damage was so significant that the family who rents the home believes they lost nearly everything.
The mother said she lives in the home with two of her children and one grandchild.
No one was home when the fire started.
The Red Cross is helping the family.
