RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Winter storm warnings are in effect through Monday for most areas north and west of the Richmond metro area. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the metro and points south.  Far southeast Virginia is under no advisory since much of the precipitation will be mostly rain and sleet. The precipitation began as rain with a little sleet in the Metro Richmond area mid to late afternoon.  Some sleet and snow hit the I-81 corridor down towards the Roanoke Valley.

Southern Virginia will see rain mix with some sleet overnight through daybreak.  Some light snow is possible.  Little to no accumulation is expected.

The Richmond metro area will see a change to sleet and snow with a light accumulation possible, especially north and west.

Areas just north and west of the Richmond metro area will see a mix of sleet and snow transitioning to mainly snow.  Snowfall accumulations over 3 or 4 inches will be possible.

Northern & northwestern Virginia will see primarily snow.  Some brief pockets of sleet are possible.  Some isolated 6"+ totals will occur across our far northern and northwestern counties.
