HANOVER, Va. (WTVR) — Deputies said the crime Dr. Brent Logie is accused of happened near his Mechanicsville home.

While warrants do not spell out exactly what happened between Logie and an alleged female victim, legal expert Claire Cardwell can certainly explain the charges.

"He's charged with ‘animate object sexual penetration,’ which indicates it was something other than a body part which would have caused the charge to be rape or sodomy,” said Cardwell. “It could be a finger or a toe used to penetrate the alleged victim."

According to court records, Logie lives in the Milestone neighborhood off New Ashcake. Deputies say the incident took place in the 9500 block of Stone Spring Drive, between 9 p.m. and midnight on Dec. 7.

CBS 6 just learned of the charges because a Facebook friend was asking why investigators were back in the neighborhood recently.

A woman on the phone Wednesday confirmed to CBS-6 that Dr. Logie still practices at Hanover Family Physicians.

"These are very difficult cases to defend because it's the words of the parties involved against each other,” said Cardwell. “That's probably why DNA was focused on so quickly because it can be a deal breaker."

An arrest warrant on file claims investigators told Logie they have his DNA. His defense attorney has filed a motion to find out what evidence the prosecution has in their possession.

"In the motion it indicates the doctor was informed there was DNA in the case by the investigating officer,” said Cardwell. “The motion is a request for prosecutors to provide that DNA which is required by Virginia code . If someone else’s DNA has been collected, that has to be provided, too."

Dr. Logie's next court date is March 19th.

Each of the two charges he faces carries a penalty of five years to life in prison.
