CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The man shot by Chesterfield Police outside his home Sunday night is now charged with a crime.
Robert J. Murphy, 52, was charged with three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of brandishing a firearm in relation to the incident.
Police shot Murphy about 10 p.m. Sunday outside his home along the 400 block of Pocono Drive.
Police were called to the Chesterfield home for a domestic disturbance.
“Police spoke to the female complainant, who had fled the residence and gone to a neighbor’s house for help. Officers learned that her husband, Murphy, had brandished a pistol at her after an argument,” police wrote in an email. “As officers attempted to make contact with Murphy, he emerged from the residence and pointed a pistol at the officers, who then shot him. He was taken by ambulance to VCU Medical Center with life threatening injuries.”
Four Chesterfield Police remain on administrative assignment pending the outcome of an investigation. Murphy remains in police custody at the hospital.
