Dead cats found ‘shot in box’ behind Chesterfield shopping center

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – For the last several years, Lisa Scott-Derrah has kept an eye on a feral cat colony that has developed behind the Oxbridge Shopping Center in Chesterfield.

However, when she went to check on the cats Thursday afternoon she made a terrifying discovery.

“There were dead cats in the one box that had been shot. There was blood, I looked closely,” said Scott-Derrah.

Other dead cats she found there, didn’t appear to be shot, she said.

“It’s just not right,” said Mary Cary, who also checks up on the colony.

Cary and Scott-Derrah both called Chesterfield Animal Control about the cats.

When CBS 6 arrived Animal Control officers were still on scene, but could only say that they have opened an animal cruelty investigation.

However, sources told CBS 6 that officers did discover two dead cats.

“I’m holding my faith in law enforcement officers, that they will reach a conclusion and find who did this and punish them,” said Cary.

All reported cases of cat-killings are being totally misread and misunderstood by cat-lickers (criminally irresponsible outdoor-cat-hoarders). Like that’s any surprise, have they ever understood ANYTHING in their lives? No.

Each cat is a blatantly clear, perfectly just, and wholly equitable message right back to the criminally irresponsible and criminally negligent cat-lickers. That message goes like this:

“See what happened to your cat? This is what your animal did to the animals that I love. Enjoy your maimed/mutilated/dead cat, you lousy piece-of-sh** for a human!”

You’re ONLY getting back EXACTLY what you give to all other life on the planet. Nothing more than that. So why are you so upset by it?

I’ve had to shoot and bury HUNDREDS of these invasive species piece-of-sh** vermin on my lands to stop them from gutting alive and skinning alive all the NATIVE wildlife on my lands.

The #1 rule on my lands now is: ANY non-native cat that is allowed to illegally hunt native wildlife on my lands then in turn gets hunted until dead. No delays, no excuses, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Bottom line: If you don’t want to take care of your cat in the manner that YOU see fit, then I guarantee you that I WILL take care of your cat in the manner that I see fit — ONE TIME. And it only takes one time. See one, shoot one, A.S.A.P. Simple as that.

    YOUR CHOICE!

If your cat gets hurt THAT’S YOUR FAULT.

PSA: The time is now …. Half-Past Kill-Kitty O’Clock …. do you know where your cat is?

As usual the uninformed troll is advocating killing cats. TNR and managed and fed colonies of cats do not kill massive amounts of wildlife. Please do your research before you write a whole lot of rubbish and make a fool of yourself.
People are the ones that kill wildlife, you never see a cat operating a bulldozer or chainsaw clearing habitat do you?

Its people that abandoned these cats in the first place. Irrisponsible pet owners who don’t fix their animals an leave them to fend for themselves. Perhaps those who say the colonies should be taken to the local shelter go work there see how many get killed a day. WIthout those cats there there will be an increase in mice. SO when they start finding rat turds in the clothing an food maybe they will think twice about how good cats are. They keep to themselves and dont bother anyone. People make me so sick. I hope the find out who did this. There has to be cameras there. If they killed 5 cats that is 5 felonies!! Make an example out of them so the cats didnt die in vain. RIP sweet kitties. Hope you didnt suffer.

Woodsman1, you have no heart.. You cannot love anything with that hate in you… With an attitude like that I bet your life is horrible! I cannot belive someone would be so hateful…. These cats didnt ask to be left by humans.. Why are you not behind bars for admitting to animal abuse! I am so mad at you right now! I wish I knew who you are! You need to be behind bars with nothing. You must be the devil!

This is so sad. Despite the fact that they aren’t even my cats(!!!) & I’m in tears. These cats didn’t ask for this neither do dogs for that fact. But there are people out there trying to help these poor babies. Why or who could do such a horrible nasty thing to these helpless creatures?!?!?!?! They should be shot or give poison & see how they like it. I hope they find the person or people who did this & send them to jail for a long, long forever time!!!!!!!

Horrible, just horrible. Leave our colonies alone! Animal cruelty charges need to get tougher to discourage these horrendous actions. No more probation as a punishment when caught! That is not enough.

  • Jeannette Bonomo

Perhaps the colonies should be removed and taken to a local shelter. Not everyone appreciates having stray cats around. Domestic animals should be kept inside, not out where they are spreading disease and killing wildlife. I keep my three cats safe at my house, not left loose where they could be shot by some loser.

iF THE NEWS WOULD report more what the animal cruelty laws are maybe we would see a decline in killing defenseless animals. it is a FELONY in virginia to kill feral cats or non feral cats. The cats do more good then harm. They are spayed an neutered and given shots just like your inside cats are.

Cats do not belong in the woods. They should be in homes or a shelter. That said, whoever did this is a low life.

Don’t pay any attention to Woodsman1. He is all over the internet saying disgusting things when it comes to cats. I bet he’s never even been in the woods…probably a 45 yr old woodsman wannabe, reclusive Momma’s boy, living in her basement wishing he had a bigger……….brain! Evil person living a lonely life!!!!! You see either he took his comment down or the station did. If the station removed it, I think they should re-post…don’t hide the fact that there are some humans too evil to be on earth!

Im thinking woodsman just admitted to killing 100’s of cats. THat is over 100 felonies. I think this site should turn his info over to the authorities so they can track him down and an he can pay the hefty fines an jail time over the senseless killings. People like that make me sick . If you will harm a helpless animal you will harm a child.

  • Carol Fox Fisher

And to the others that stated cats should not be in the woods….no, they should not. However, most of these cats cannot be tamed, but they are totally harmless. And they were probably in a trap/neuter/return program. Volunteers trap them, have them neutered so this cycle will stop and then return them to the only home they know, usually behind restaurants, shopping centers, etc. If they go to a shelter they will likely NOT be adopted and end up being euthanized. I pity any human being that thinks THAT would be OK.

  • Jayne Reed

Feral cats taken to ‘shelters’ are immediately euthanized. Non-feral cats taken to shelters are normally euthanized in 3 to 14 days depending on how crowded the shelter is. A non-feral cat that sneezes or has runny eyes or any other health issues is euthanized. Please do your homework on your local ‘shelter’ and on feral cat colonies before passing judgment on cats or other animals (including homeless human animals) that are just trying to survive and find their next meal.

  • HHS-Stefaffi

This colony was well maintained through Trap-Neuter-Return, and all of the cats that were killed were not only spayed/neutered, but were also up-to-date on their shots. This location also had several shelters set up to give the cats someplace out of the weather, but those shelters had been kicked or pushed down a fairly steep hill into a ravine.

The person/people who are messing with this colony aren’t doing it out of anything even remotely resembling good intentions. People who do this are usually petty criminals who are acting out because a) there’s a good chance they won’t get caught and b) even if they did get caught, the punishment will be minimal.

  • Louis Chatte

So what do you do with the cats? There are probably 20 cats in the woods near my home. With the cold temperatures, I don’t want them to freeze – although I believe two have already died. Of course, they also fight with the chickens and the rooster that live close by so it causes all kinds of ruckus. Do I call animal control? Or the animal shelter? I am looking for humane suggestions, so woodsman00prick does not need to respond.
