RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Police were called to the scene of a deadly double stabbing on Richmond's Northside Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 4:10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Chamberlayne Ave., between Westbrook and Westminster, in the Ginter Park neighborhood.

Richmond police said officers discovered two black females that were stabbed near any apartment complex when they arrived.

Both victims were rushed to VCU Medical Center where one of the women later died. The other woman remains in critical condition.

Witnesses told CBS 6 News senior reporter Wayne Covil that she saw a bleeding woman run out of a rental office, screaming that she had been robbed before she fell to the ground. Bystanders rushed to help the woman. A witness said one victim had stab wounds in neck and face.

Police said that the incident started in a nearby apartment complex, but they do not know yet if it was a robbery -- or exactly what prompted the stabbing.

This is Richmond's 35th homicide for 2013.

Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804- 780-1000.
