RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Church Hill is up for a $2,000 prize. The group was selected as finalists for the National Kids Give Back campaign, sponsored by Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The Church Hill club was recognized for its Pennies of Love program. The children put pennies in a big water jug every day. The money will be used to help feed the hungry around Christmas.
“Our youth are committed to collecting 10,000 pennies to feed the homeless at the Salvation Army shelter. Every day after devotions, members empty their pockets of collected pennies into the great big jar,” the club wrote on the Kids Give Back website. “After collecting the pennies, the youth will purchase everything needed to cook and serve a meal of soup, sandwiches and a drink.”
