At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 4000 block of J. Mitchell Jones Drive for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, officers located Eric N. Wilkins Jr., 22, outside an apartment building. Wilkins, a Virginia State University junior student who lived in housing on campus, had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday afternoon, police arrested and charged Bryan W. Williams Jr., 19, with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident.

Williams, of the 1900 block of Tolbert Terrace in Chester, is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

The apartments are considered off the Virginia State University campus, but are exclusively for VSU students.

My condolences to the family and friends of this young man slain, and hope that there is rightful justice brought upon his killer.

This has been one of the roughest semesters for VSU! It seems like every time I turn on the news lately, it’s more bad stuff going on their way, and it’s nowhere near a proper representation of what the University really stands for. Hoping things turn around for the better within the coming term.

My condolences goes out to erics family, eric was my sons best friend and he was a second son to me. If its any time for the justice system to work its now. They need to make an example out of that young man and show all other young men that tote guns and think that makes them men.

What would cause a person to take another person life. What in the world was he thinking about. God this world needs your love.
