RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Police are investigating what caused a car to slam into VCU Massey Cancer Center about 8 p.m. Sunday night in Richmond. The vehicle ended up inside the entrance of the Goodwin Research Laboratory on College Street.

"The vehicle crashed through the lobby doors before coming to a rest on its side. No serious injuries were reported," VCU Police Department Michael Kelly wrote in an email. "The driver, a 51-year-old male who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was issued a summons for reckless driving."

Police said it does not appear alcohol played a part in the crash.

"Damage to the building appears to be only superficial but VCU Police will be posted outside the entrance to secure access until repairs can be made," he said.

Massey remains open and operating as usual.
