Police investigate early morning crash in Albemarle County

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -Police in Albemarle County are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the 400 block of Irish Road early Saturday morning.

Police say around 3:30 a.m. a 1991 GMC Jimmy SUV was traveling west on Irish Road, just outside of the Town of Scottsville.  The vehicle ran off the left side of the road, hitting a tree head on at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the vehicle, Andrew Lively, 25, of Esmont, Virginia, died at the scene.

The Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.

Officials said speed appears to be a causation factor in the crash.  It remains under investigation.
