Facebook errorUPDATE: Facebook appears to be working again. A cause for the outage has not yet been made public.

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Some Facebook users are reporting getting an error message when attempting to post a status update or reply to other updates. Reports of the Monday morning outage started around 8 a.m.

The cause of Monday’s outage is not yet known.

“If you’re seeing this message when you log in, it usually means that we’re making an improvement to the database that your account is stored on. While we’re doing this, you won’t be able to access your account. We’re sorry for the inconvenience,” Facebook posted about outages in general. “After the maintenance is over, you’ll still be able to log in with the same password. Your account won’t be affected by the maintenance. We don’t do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it’s possible that your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable.”

Whether or not Monday’s outage is due to database improvements remains to be seen.
