HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) - Hopewell City Manager Dr. Edwin Daley resigned from the job he has held for more than six years. Daley's resignation was announced during a city council special meeting Tuesday night.
A reason for the resignation has not yet been made public.
Mark Haley, Director of the Hopewell Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility, will serve as acting City Manager until Daley's replacement is hired.
Daley, a veteran of the US Marine Corps, worked in Winchester, Fairmont, W.Va., and Dodge City, Kansas before coming to Hopewell, according to his bio which remained active on the city's website.
This news comes just 24 hours after the last day for the city's assistant City Manager, who left to take a job in a nearby county.
Word of the two top jobs being vacant, has some who live in the city, concerned about why they left and who is in charge of the day to day operations.
"I think it puts it in a dim light" Keith Hall said, who is concerned how the community looks at the city.
Dan McCall, referring to those who might be looking to move or work in Hopewell said, "This might not be the place to come."
But Mayor Mike Bujakowski says citizens need to have faith in City Council.
"The reality of it is for the Citizens of Hopewell and for the entire city is, there's going to be no change. There will be no disruption, there will be no hiccups. There will be no stopping of projects or sidetracking projects," the mayor said.
