MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (WTVR) - A fundraiser was held for the second year in a row at Cullen's Cove in Mechanicsville Saturday night for the sons of Sabrina Markham.

Sabrina Markham was killed last June when her estranged husband forced his way into her Mechanicsville home and opened fire with an assault rifle. Sabrina died at the scene leaving behind family, friends, and her two sons.

"Her greatest thing was being a mother," said April Girard, a friend of Sabrina's.

Items like personalized shirts and bracelets were sold in Sabrina's name along with raffle items.

Sabrina had a love for music and bands played in honor of the slain mother and her two sons.

"It didn't matter who was playing, she wanted to go," said Girard.

Rob Hazelwood owns Cullen's Cove and said Sabrina and her friends came into his bar often. He said hosting a fundraiser like this for her two sons is an honor.

"They were put in a position where their mother isn't here to work for them. Anything this community can do to help these two young boys, I think we should stand behind them," he said.

Sabrina's friends say they hope to carry on the fundraising tradition and still think about her every day.

"The hurt and pain never goes away," said Girard.
