HANOVER COUNTY, Va.(WTVR) -- A Hanover County man who went missing Sunday evening was found Monday morning in a swamp near the Chickahominy River.
Hunters Tom and John Randolph found the man's car about 8 a.m. Monday. It was stuck in the mud near their wooded property off Watt House Road. The Randolph brothers were in the woods that morning to hunt geese.
"Really we thought it was some kids trespassing," Tom said. "It turned out to be an elderly man who had health issues and was lost in the swamp.
The brothers called police who started searching the woods for the missing man. Shortly after conducting a helicopter search, the missing man was found in the swamp. Virginia State Police and Hanover Fire-EMS found the man, 63, stranded in waist-deep water. He was taken to Memorial Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
"Walking through that swamp for a very healthy person is extremely taxing," John said.
“I’m exceptionally pleased that we were able to quickly locate this gentleman and return him to his loved ones. Our success is a direct result of the dedication and teamwork exhibited by everyone who was involved,” said Colonel David R. Hines, Sheriff.
