Parked ambulance stolen from hospital, ditched in woods

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A man is in custody after an ambulance parked outside a Central Virginia hospital disappeared Wednesday night.

Hopewell Fire Department Batt. Chief Donny Hunter said a first responder noticed the ambulance, parked outside John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, had disappeared around 7:30 p.m.

Minutes after the search for the missing ambulance began, Hopewell Police discovered the vehicle ditched in woods near the hospital along Allied Rd. in Chesterfield County.

Police took a man connected to the ambulance's disappearance into custody, however no information about the suspect has been released at this time.

The ambulance was not damaged in the incident and has already been put back into service.
