VTM: Decorative Artisan Soap

RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - Ready to try a little DIY luxury? Local Entrepreneur and owner of The Daily Scrub, Rachel Chieppa, showed us how to make soap.


Distilled Water – 18.1 Ounces

Sodium Hydroxide – 6.7 Ounces

Unrefined Shea Butter – 4.8 Ounces

Palm Oil – 13.5 Ounces

Coconut Oil – 13.5 Ounces

Olive Oil – 6.7 Ounces

Sunflower Oil – 9.6 Ounces

  •  Mix the lye and water first, then set aside
  •  Melt and mix all other ingredients inside a stainless steel bowl
  • Heat both mixes up to 95 degrees
  • Pour the lye mix into the oil mix
  • Stick blend until it reaches a consistency similar to cake batter
  • Add in your choice of 3 ounces of fragrance oil
  • Add in your choice of 2 tablespoons of herbs
  • Pour into a mold
  • Cure for 4 weeks
