Vehicles damaged after auto auction fire

HENRICO,Va. (WTVR) — Henrico firefighters are investigating a fire at Copart Auto Auction that damaged more than a dozen vehicles.

Crews responded to the 5700 block of Whiteside Rd. shortly after 12:00 p.m. Saturday.

As units approached they discovered a fire inside an auto lot surrounded by a 9000 volt electric fence. Firefighters made entry without any injuries.

Once on the property fire units found a large parking area with hundreds of vehicles parked within inches of each other.

As units approached the fire they found multiple cars burning.

Crews quickly placed hand lines in operation to extinguish the fire and protect the remainder of the lot.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it damaged 16 cars.

The fence was checked and found to be intact around the lot.

Investigators are still trying to  determine the cause of the fire.
