Two separate waves of thunderstorms marched across Virginia on Thursday.  Because of the high humidity, these storms tapped into a lot of moisture and produced very heavy rainfall.

The second wave of storms rolled in towards late afternoon and early evening.  This impacted the evening rush hour, and the Flying Squirrels game was delayed by a couple of hours.

Rainfall totals across the Richmond metro area averaged between one and three inches.  Some 48-hour rain totals, ending at 5 a.m. Friday, included some three to six-inch totals across Nottoway and Diwiddie counties.  Very heavy rainfall was also recorded around the Tri Cities and other isolated locations across southeastern Virginia and the Middle Peninsula.
