SANDSTON, Va. (WTVR) –  Four Sandston-based soldiers from the Virginia National Guard’s Army Aviation Support Facility left town Monday headed to Texas. There the soldiers will join the fight against illegal immigration.

The Virginia National Guard shared some video of the soldiers loading up and leaving aboard a UH-72 Lakota helicopter.

Between now and October, approximately 15 Virginia Guard Soldiers will rotate through Texas, according to Va. Army National Guard Public Affairs Officer Cotton Puryear. The last time Virginia Guard Soldiers worked border patrol, they helped nab 1,800 illegal immigrants, including human traffickers and drug smugglers, Puryear said.
