RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) - Eight months after he was gunned down on the sidewalk, police are trying to drum up new leads in the murder of a Richmond teenager.

Rodney Shelton was killed in a drive-by shooting while walking home with friends on Q Street last October. Monday, July 29,  would've marked Shelton's 19th birthday.

Shelton's mother hopes that by speaking out now someone will come forward with new leads in the case.

"It hurts. I know a lot of people were out here the night he was shot. And I know somebody saw something," says Louise Shelton, Rodney's mother. "I think once I get some closure I'll feel better."

Shelton was about to receive his GED at the time of his death. Shelton's former teacher brought that diploma to his mom on Sunday as a birthday present.

Anyone with information about Rodney Shelton's murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
