INDIANAPOLIS (WTVR) - A bus full of teenagers was just minutes outside of Indianapolis when it slammed into a jersey way and flipped over on its side while coming off an exit ramp.

The group of passengers were on their way back to the Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis from a youth camp in Michigan.

The accident killed three people, including youth pastor Chad Phelps and his pregnant wife Courtney.  19 others were also injured.  Nearly 40 people were on board.

One witness, Carol Allbright, was stunned at how quickly the crash unfolded.

"I saw this bus going so fast and I thought, 'Gosh, that guy is going so fast,'" she said.  "The light had just turned green for the southbound traffic, and then the bus just flew into my vision right away and flipped in an instant."

The bus driver claimed that his breaks failed as he was turning south to get off the ramp.

Police are still investigating the crash.

More than a dozen teens are still in the hospital.
