RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A line of strong thunderstorms that tracked eastward across the state Sunday evening caused flooding across parts of Central Virginia.

The storms produced very heavy rainfall and a lot of lightning, and had the potential to dump hail and cause wind gusts over 35 mph.

The storms also knocked out power to thousands across the area. However, as of 11 p.m., just under 2,000 people in Central Virginia were without power, according to Dominion Virginia Power.

CBS 6 received a number of photos and reports from viewers of flooding and traffic backups.

Adrianna said that I-95 south was backed up from the Ashland exit to the I-295 interchange. Matt in Mechanicsville sent in a photo of carpet that was soaked in his house.
