CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – How would you like to have an electric bill less than eight dollars a month?

It’s a reality for the Keith-Hynes family of Charlottesville, who live in a solar-powered home.

Their solar panels are designed to cover 60 percent of their projected electric needs.  The family says their latest electric bill rang in at only $7.70, and that covers a Dominion utility fee and city taxes.

The entire system cost the family $15,000 dollars, but with tax rebates, they expect it to pay for itself in 5 years.

Last month, Dominion Virginia started a program that pays customers to generate solar energy for them.
