FORT MYERS, Fla. — Chris Kreis, a teenager from Fort Myers, Fla., says he spends most of his time in the ocean.

So when a 30-foot whale shark passed by Kreis’s boat, he says he couldn’t resist jumping in–for a ride.

The whale shark let Kreis ride on his back for a few seconds.

Kreis says he got out of the water shortly after the ride when he saw more aggressive sharks nearby.

Despite their size, whale sharks are typically very docile fish that don’t harm humans.
