ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WTVR) -- Forty-five years after a Virginia man lost his class ring, it has been returned to its rightful owner.

WUSA reports Dorian Brandau last saw his ring at his childhood home in Alexandria back in 1968.

The woman who now lives in the house found the mangled metal ring in a pile of wood chips in the backyard. She took it to a jeweler, who discovered the initials D-G-B inside.

After posting pictures of the ring on Facebook, she was able to track down Brandau, who was a bit surprised the ring had finally turned up.

In fact, he said his first thought was that someone was pulling his leg when he got a phone call  asking if he was missing a ring.

The woman who found the ring was offered a reward for finding it.

However, she said that the look on Brandau's face when he got the ring back was priceless.
