BLACKSBURG, Va. (WTVR) - Another football helmet maker has gained the top rating by Virginia Tech which collects collision data and ranks the equipment.

The "Xenith X-2" joins Riddell and Rawlings with a five-star rating.

Virginia Tech started rating helmets in 2011 using data from more than 2,000,000 collisions.

University researchers say they've given the equation to create safer helmets to manufacturers .

The Virginia Tech football team uses 5-star rated helmets.
