RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – With mostly clear skies and calm winds Monday morning, along with a cooler air-mass in the wake of Saturday’s cold frontal passage, low temperatures dipped into the 30s and low 40s in central Virginia.

In some places, record lows were broken or tied.

One site in Danville reported a low temperature of 37 degrees, which breaks the old record of 38 degrees from 1989.

In Lynchburg, the record low for May 13 was tied at 35 degrees, previously met in 1969.

Tomorrow, temperatures will fall into the 30s and low 40s again, with patchy frost threatening the western Piedmont in particular.

If you think these chilly temperatures are crazy for May, let me give you a little perspective. We have record cold lows on the books down to 40 degrees even in early June!
