DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR)--The details behind the"Great Bull Run"are now being released.

The August 24 event, at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie County, has already pre-sold nearly 1,000 tickets. That compares to nearly 5,000 tickets pre-sold for the nine events across the United States.

The idea is simple and modeled after the famous Spain event, Running with the Bulls.

The first of the national events will be held here in the Commonwealth. Event organizers said that a total of 30 bulls and steers will be on hand.

Participants will line a quarter-mile course, when the first wave of six bulls and steers are let go for their run. Then, 15 seconds later, a second wave of six bulls and steers will follow.

The idea isn't to try to run with the bulls, but as they pass by you, sprint next to them for a few seconds before they leave you in the dust.

A paved road, located right beside the drag strip, will be covered in six to 12 inches of dirt, to protect the animals and make it safer for participants.

Organizers said they plan for the bulls to run every hour.

Those who want to take part will sign a waiver that outlines the risk, but event planners said many are gearing up for an adrenaline rush.

Also planned that day are three tomato fights, along with live bands.
