HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – It was a special day for veterans at Richmond International Raceway Sunday.
Driver Brad Keselowski spent the day driving veterans around the track.
Keselowski's Checkered Flag Foundation offered veterans a complete NASCAR experience in a customized, "Race2Recovery" car.
Those who got to take a few laps around the track said they will never forget the special experience.
Cary Flatt, a Green Beret who served 19 years in the Army, said that it was a humbling experience. He said that members of the Armed Forces are sometimes away from home for so long that it is not always clear when they return that people are still thinking of them.
Keselowski said the event put everything into perspective after a tough night.
"I had a rough night last night and had some engine and tire trouble," said Keselowski. "You get frustrated and then you see the smiles on people's faces… and it puts everything into perspective."
