CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – A convicted sex offender was arrested for rape at an apartment complex near the Albemarle County Police Department.

Henry Lee Jasper, 32, was charged with Forcible Rape and Abduction, according to Public Information Officer Carter Johnson. Johnson would not release details about the victim due to the nature of the crime, but did confirm the victim did not know the suspect.

Jasper, who is from Louisa County, is being held without bond at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.  He appeared on the Virginia State Police sex offender registry after a 1999 aggravated sexual battery conviction.

Johnson said the rape happened about 3 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex across the street from the police department along the 1600 block of 5th Street.

Police said the investigation into the rape was “on-going.”
