WAVERLY, Va (WTVR)--Thursday marks eight days since Larry Turner was injured.

It also marks the first surgery he will have on his face to repair the damage.

Witnesses say a Waverly police officer slammed Larry Turner, who was handcuffed, face first into the pavement after he placed him under arrest for assault.

Turner doesn't remember the incident, just the police officer coming to his home, to investigate an argument between Turner and his teenage son.

Turner says, he never touched the officer, and witnesses say they heard Turner ask, while being led away in handcuffs, why he was being arrested.

Moments later, multiple witnesses say Turner was slammed into the pavement.

A doctor tells Turner he has multiple broken bones in his face, that need to be repaired, including one that is causing his right eye to droop.

The Virginia State Police confirm they have been called in by the Waverly Police to investigate the incident.
