RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - An accident led to a fatality shortly just before midnight on Friday in the 10800 block of Timber Road.

What happened Friday night near Jodie Myers' Prince George County home still has her visibly shaken.

"I never, ever, anticipated something like this happening,” Myers said.  "It was traumatic," she added.  "Very traumatic.  Very sad."

Myers said she and her husband saw a black SUV lodged into a tree.

"My husband got the flashlight," Myers said.  "We both went out there, and it was much worse than we thought."

"I figured that they had run into the woods and they were stuck," Myers said.  "I called the police instantly."

Moments later, a passenger in that SUV showed up at the front door, telling the couple he and three others had been in an accident.

"He was confused," Myers said.  "He had head wounds, and he didn't know where he was."

Police say the driver was killed, and two other passengers were rushed to VCU Medical Center.

According to Jacob St. John, the 17-year-old victim was a junior at Prince George High School.

"He was a great kid," St. John said.  "He didn't do anything wrong," he added.  "He made good grades and was a good athlete too."

St. John said the victim lived with his family.  The news of his death is taking a toll on the community.

"He wouldn't want us to be crying," St. John said.  "He'd want us to do something fun in his memory.  He was that kind of guy.”

Neighbors tell CBS 6, that drivers missed a sign as they head down Timber Road, warning them that it's a dead end and not I-95.

Myers said the confusion has caused a few incidents, but nothing this tragic.

"There needs to be some changes out here on this road." Myers said.  "There needs to be some signs," she added.  "I would love to see a light illuminate that area so that they can see that it's a dead end."

She wants the county to take action so no one else loses a life.

"I hope so," Myers said.  "I feel terribly sorry for the family who lost a loved one.”
