RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Today is the 7th anniversary of the first-ever “tweet.” On March 21, 2006, Twitter creator Jack Dorsey tweeted “Just setting up my [Twitter].”

Since that tweet, more than 200,000,000 users have registered on the social media site. There are about 400,000,000 tweets sent every day.

We sent our first tweet via the @CBS 6 Twitter handle on Feb. 21, 2008.

It read:

“Temps in the low 30s, high 39.  Still expecting a winter storm/ice event overnight and tomorrow morning.”

After a few days of weather-related tweets, on Feb. 26, 2008, we tweeted:

“FYI to all our new Twitter friends.  We are playing a bit with Twitter, but we haven’t launched this yet as a full-time service.”

Since then we’ve tweeted more than 17,000 times and picked up nearly 14,000 followers along the way.

It’s been a fun tweeting with everyone so far and I’m excited to see where the next seven years take us.

Tweet me and say hello or drop a news tip when you have a moment.
