The No. 5 Rams will match-up against the No. 12 Akron Zips. VCU head coach Shaka Smart was an assistant coach at Akron and is close friends with Akron head coach Keith Dambrot.

“I saw it was Akron and obviously I have history with Keith and I used to work there,” Smart told the Richmond Times Dispatch.

The Rams and Zips last played last season in Akron with the Rams winning by a single point in overtime. VCU also defeated Akron in a 2010 home game.
