PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) -- A middle school student has been charged after bringing an unloaded weapon onto school property.

Initial reports were that there was a hostage situation at Peabody Middle School.

CBS 6 reporter Wayne Covil said that earlier today two students spotted a BB gun that was in the backpack of another student.

The student has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property, and released into parental custody.

Last year, in October, two guns were found in the locker of a Peabody student. There was no ammunition in the guns.
