RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--A Richmond jury has awarded a quarter-million dollars to a Richmond police officer who said he was battered by a fellow officer during a traffic stop.
His attorneys said Wesley Moore was off-duty in August 2010, when he was stopped for no apparent reason.
When Moore asked the officer to explain, Moore said the officer ordered him out of the car and jumped on him.
Moore's suit contended the officer had no right to stop him or touch him and when the defense asked why he didn't just identify himself, Moore’s attorney said he shouldn't have to do that to be treated fairly.
The video from the dash camera in the patrol officer’s car was not available due to alleged equipment malfunctions.
Officer Moore testified that following this incident he was upset, embarrassed and suffered chest pains and that not a day passed without thinking about this incident.
Officer Moore is a member of SWAT, a K-9 officer and an instructor for the Richmond Police Academy.
“I’ve waited a long time for a jury to set the record straight," said Moore.
