RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – VDOT encourages drivers to drive to work safely Monday morning due to the icy roads.

Although VDOT will continue to clear roadways, they still recommend drivers should pay attention to icy bridges, overpasses, roads and ramps.

Here are some driving tips released by VDOT:

  • Slow down and allow for extra time to reach your destination.
  • Stay at least five seconds behind the car in front of you.
  • Do not pass a snowplow or spreader unless it is absolutely necessary.

Drivers can go to or download the 511 mobile app to check the latest road conditions.
