RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) -- Snow and ice is the big concern for school districts and parents, as they brace for bad weather.  The threat of snow Thursday evening could stick and result in icy spots, leading to dangerous conditions for commuters and bus drivers.

Hanover County School administrators tell CBS 6 depending on how serious things get, weather watchers could head out around 4:30 Friday morning to monitor the situation.  They would essentially work during the early morning hours to determine if the streets are safe for travel.  It's a decision that will be reached by 6 a.m. Friday in order to give parents enough time to make any necessary arrangements.

In Henrico County, Desiree Centeio said preparation is key.  The mother of two said monitoring the weather and traffic conditions herself is a way to ease some concerns.  Finally Centeio added although she's hoping for the best over the next few days she is still bracing for the worst case scenario.

"My worse fear is just for the neighborhood and for the kids in general because in the past there have been so many mishaps and drivers that don't know how to drive safely, or don't take their time and they rush too much," Centeio said.

Petersburg City Public Schools issued the following statement:
“Petersburg City Public Schools is monitoring the forecast closely.  We have a plan in place to alert parents, students, and employees of a school closure due to  inclement weather. “

Chesterfield County Public Schools administrators wrote in an email they too are "continuing to monitor the weather."
