Bishop Walter Sullivan’s body will lie in repose

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The body of Bishop Walter Sullivan will lie in repose at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18. An evening prayer/vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m., according Cathadral administrator Kim Kremer.

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is located at 800 South Cathedral Place, Richmond, VA  23230.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 19 in the Cathedral with Entombment following in the Cathedral Crypt.

Sullivan died last week at his home. He had been receiving treatment at Saint Mary’s Hospital for an inoperable tumor on his liver.

Ordained a priest in 1953, Sullivan became the 11th Bishop of Richmond and led the diocese for nearly 30 years.
