CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) - Chesterfield police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that ended with one man dead.

The shooting occurred in the 7700 block of Millcreek Drive around 5 p.m. Monday.

Police said that officers were serving two felony domestic assault warrants to the home of 38-year-old Brian McDaniel.

The warrants were related to previous domestic incidents at the same address.

A family member let Chesterfield Police into the residence and McDaniel ran to the back. That's when a standoff ensued.

Police said that during the standoff, they heard gunfire. They said that McDaniel then pointed his gun at the officers and police fired.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CBS 6 News has learned McDaniel was no stranger to law enforcement. In fact, he faced numerous charges, some of which date back to 2002, ranging from assault and battery to resisting arrest.

One officer has been assigned to non-patrol duties, which is protocol, until the investigation is complete.

Eric Sprague, a next-door neighbor told CBS 6 News' Jerrita Tuesday morning that he had "never seen anything funny" at the house.
