RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) — Areas of locally dense fog will persist through Monday morning’s rush hour before gradually improving by mid to late morning.

A slowly lifting warm front through central Virginia this morning is allowing for improved visibilities in south-central and far southeast Virginia. However, locations along and north of this boundary are still contending with dense fog. North of the boundary, winds are calm, encouraging the fog to linger.

Visibility from the fog will drop below a quarter of a mile.  Use extra caution when driving, since visibility can rapidly change from place-to-place over a short distance.

A stronger southwesterly wind should push the front north of the area through this morning, allowing warmer air to return to most of the state before an overnight cold front tracks west to east. I expect scattered showers to accompany this frontal passage overnight Monday into pre-dawn Tuesday.

The warm front on Sunday was a stalled front. South of the front, clouds broke for some sunshine and highs reached well into the 60s.  A few spots in extreme southeast Virginia approached 70°.
